April is National Volunteer Appreciation Month, when we celebrate and give thanks to all of those who generously give their time, energy, and expertise to make the world a better place.

The dedicated volunteers here at George Mark Children’s House are an integral part of the life-affirming care and comfort provided to children and their families, and truly serve as the backbone of our community.

At the end of each session, I'm tired. But my heart is full. I have gained far more than I have given.

There are many types of volunteers here at the House: from volunteers who spend quality time directly with children and their families; our volunteer office assistants; volunteer kitchen support personnel; the volunteer garden and facilities team; and of course, our fur-volunteer therapy animals.

At George Mark Children’s House, our volunteers not only give us the gift of their time, but they bring passion, joy, and energy to weave us together to care for our patients and families. And as one of our current volunteers, Pun, says in our Volunteer Salute 2023, “together we create a symphony of support for all the children.”

Being able to be a part of something that helps so many families absolutely fills my cup. GMCH radiates positivity and I’m grateful to be involved.

On behalf of all of us at the House, thank you to our amazing volunteers who enrich the lives of the children and their families, and truly make George Mark Children’s House a magical place for life-affirming care. We appreciate volunteers’ contributions this month and every month!

I realized I could help create an environment for small moments of joy.
