Our Circle of Care
Supporting Sofia’s Family
Sofia was only four years old when her baby
brother, Noah, arrived and filled her family’s home
with the purest joy imaginable. For three bright
months, their world was shaped by laughter, tiny
fingers, and the wonder of new life. And then, as
happens far too often in the lives of families we
serve, everything shifted. Noah’s sudden illness led
to a life-saving surgery, difficult diagnosis, and the
heartbreaking understanding that his life would be
brief.
Guided by love and courage, the Weber family
turned to George Mark Children’s House so they
could remain together during Noah’s final weeks.
What Sofia remembers from those 53 days is not the
weight of sorrow, but the surprising lightness of
peace. She recalls gardens that invited play; art
rooms that opened pathways for expression;
therapy animals that brought comfort, and the gentle
rhythm of Noah’s aquatic therapy—moments that
gave the gift of childhood back to a little girl whose
world had grown so weighty.
Like every family who comes to George Mark, the
Webers were fully embraced with care and dignity.
Sofia received art therapy that allowed her young
heart to speak in color and shape long before she
had the language for loss. Together, the family
created handprints and memory boxes. These
legacy pieces are tender keepsakes that still occupy
a cherished place in their home and in their hearts.
