A Playground Where
Every Child Counts
At George Mark Children’s House, we recognize that
play is a vital part of childhood and a connection for all
children, regardless of their medical conditions. With
appreciation for the generosity of GMCH supporters,
we’ve begun construction on an All-Abilities Playground.
This new space is creatively designed so that every child,
regardless of ability, can play, explore, and belong.
For years, families at GMCH have hoped for a
playground where medically fragile children and their
siblings could play side by side. Now, thanks to the
expertise of visionary designers, the dedication of skilled
builders, and the heartfelt support of generous donors,
the playground is underway.
This inclusive outdoor space will provide endless
opportunities for children to laugh, move, and
participate in meaningful ways. Thoughtfully designed
plantings will offer year-round beauty and therapeutic
sensory experiences through fragrance, texture, and
vibrant color. Hummingbirds and monarch butterflies will
add moments of wonderment.
Interactive musical instruments —an assortment of bells
and drums, plus a magical laser harp.
We-Go-Round—a versatile merry-go-round designed both
for children who use wheelchairs and for those who are
ambulatory.
We-Go-Swing—an inviting wheelchair-accessible swing that
makes it possible for siblings to swing together.
Accessible garden—an area with raised, abundant flower
beds for easy access and hands-on exploration.
Shaded picnic area—a relaxing space for connecting with
loved ones.
Every element has been thoughtfully chosen to honor
our patients’ unique needs and to create moments of
shared happiness for the entire family. We’ve made
great progress in funding this project and are still
welcoming additional supporters.
