A day of service and heart.
April is National Volunteer Month, a time to recognize the people and groups who give their time, energy, and care to support George Mark Children’s House. This year, we are honored to spotlight Premier Nutrition, whose recent volunteer day brought not only helping hands, but also deep personal meaning and extraordinary generosity.
More than 20 Premier Nutrition team members came to George Mark ready to make a difference. Together, they helped spruce up the exterior of the House and refresh the grounds, bringing care and attention to the outdoor spaces that welcome children and families each day.
Leading the effort was Gregg Pitts, Premier Nutrition’s Accounting Director, who is no stranger to George Mark. Sixteen years ago, his daughter Sara was an end of life patient at George Mark.
The day began with Gregg and George Mark CEO Shekinah Eliassen speaking with the Premier Nutrition team about the personal meaning George Mark holds for their families. Gregg spoke about the lasting connection his family has with George Mark, sharing, “This is a heavy place, but I want you to know I’m in a good place, and I talk about my daughter Sarah all the time.”
Shekinah also spoke about the meaning of the George Mark, along with the compassion that continues to shape its mission. “Gregg and I have had many conversations about what a special place George Mark is, and we’re happy you’ve given us your time to see this House that has impacted so many families,” Shekinah said.
Their remarks set a heartfelt tone for the day and gave the group a deeper understanding of the human connection at the center of George Mark’s work.
Ken Sommer, Head of Advancement, then led the group on a tour of the House before sending them off to their projects. With a greater understanding of George Mark’s work and the families we serve, the Premier Nutrition team got to work with enthusiasm and purpose.
Their efforts made an immediate impact. By the end of the day, the exterior of the House and surrounding grounds looked refreshed and cared for, helping make our campus even more welcoming for the children and families who spend precious time here.
As the day came to a close, Premier Nutrition made an even greater contribution by presenting George Mark Children’s House with a generous donation of $25,000. During the presentation, Gregg underscored the importance of giving back in a tangible way as Shekinah expressed gratitude for both Premier Nutrition’s service and its generosity.
We are deeply grateful to Premier Nutrition for this meaningful day of service and support. Their volunteer efforts strengthened the beauty of our campus, and their generous gift will help sustain the compassionate care we provide to children with serious medical conditions and their families.
